Sumit Rajpal Named SEC Senior Policy Advisor

Washington D.C., April 24, 2020 — The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) today announced that Sumit Rajpal has joined the agency as Senior Policy Advisor.

Mr. Rajpal brings significant experience and a deep understanding of capital markets and financial regulation. Mr. Rajpal joins the SEC from Goldman Sachs, where he most recently served as the Global Co-Head of the Merchant Banking Division. In this role, Mr. Rajpal oversaw investing activities across multiple asset classes including private equity, growth equity, infrastructure, credit, and real estate. Additionally, in prior roles, Mr. Rajpal has led various financial technology investments and was involved with building financial technology-oriented businesses. Earlier in his career, Mr. Rajpal was a consultant at McKinsey & Company.

Kothari, Director of the SEC’s Division of Economic and Risk Analysis. “His depth of experience in financial markets and regulation will be a benefit to the agency, particularly through our recently formed COVID-19 market monitoring group and in our ongoing work across the agency to assess the interconnectedness of our financial markets in conjunction with our regulatory agency partners.”

Mr. Rajpal received his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Mumbai.
