Office of Inspector General Hotline

Aug. 18, 2015

The OIG welcomes information about fraud, waste, abuse, or mismanagement affecting the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) programs and operations, as well as allegations of wrongdoing by SEC employees, contractors, and consultants. To facilitate the making of complaints, the OIG maintains a hotline for the confidential reporting of these matters to the OIG. Hotline complaints may be made by either calling the OIG's tollfree hotline number, (833) SEC-OIG1 (732-6441), where a specially trained hotline operator will record all important details of the complaint, or by completing an Online Complaint Form.

Complainants are encouraged to assist the OIG by providing their names and information on how they may be contacted for additional information. However, individuals submitting complaints through the OIG hotline may request to remain anonymous.

The OIG also maintains the Employee Suggestion Program (ESP) pursuant to requirements set forth in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Through the ESP, the OIG receives suggestions from SEC employees for improvements in the SEC's work efficiency, effectiveness, productivity, and use of its resources. SEC employees can report their suggestions to the ESP via the OIG hotline number or online complaint form listed above.

Some matters are outside the OIG's jurisdiction and are handled by other agency components. To file a complaint about a securities law violation or to provide a tip on a potential security law violation, please go to the SEC for Enforcement Tips and Complaints. To complain about unlawful employment discrimination at the SEC, including discriminatory harassment, or to obtain information about the SEC's equal employment opportunity program, please contact the SEC's Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Office.
