The Office of the Secretary prepares and maintains records of Commission actions, schedules and coordinates Commission meetings, and administers the Commission's duty-officer process as well as its seriatim process by which the Commission takes collective action without convening a meeting of the Commissioners.

The Secretary's Office reviews all SEC documents submitted to and approved by the Commission, including rulemaking releases, enforcement orders and litigation releases, SRO rulemaking notices and orders, and other actions taken by SEC staff pursuant to delegated authority.

In addition, Office of the Secretary staff provide advice to the Commission and staff on questions of practice and procedure, and they receive and track documents filed in administrative proceedings as well as requests for confidential treatment and public comment letters on rule proposals.

The Secretary's Office also is responsible for publishing official documents and releases of Commission actions in the Federal Register and monitoring Commission compliance with the Government in the Sunshine Act.

SEC Rulemaking

The Office of the Secretary processes Commission rule releases and other notices or documents associated with SEC rulemaking activity and manages the public comment process.

Enforcement Actions

The Office of the Secretary processes litigation releases, Commission orders, and other documents related to SEC enforcement actions, and receives and tracks documents filed in administrative proceedings.

SRO Rulemaking

The Office of the Secretary processes Commission notices and orders associated with rulemaking undertaken by self-regulatory organizations and manages the public comment process.
