The mutual fund companies should also explain the principles that guide them in determining how proxy votes are cast and reveal any conflict of interest. I and other shareholders should have the right to know how a fund's management votes on issues such as executive compensation and board appointments. We need this information in order to decide whether or not to own a particular fund. Proxy voting information should be provided in a way that is understandable and not overly costly. Posting it on the funds' website or the SEC website would be sufficient. I urge the SEC to take this step which will help restore investors' confidence by increasing visibility into corporate activities.
