Subject: S7-28-96 January 22, 1997 Mr. Jonathan G. Katz, Secretary Securities and Exchange Commission 450 Fifth Street, N. W. Washington, D.C. 20549 Dear Mr. Katz: Partes Corporation appreciates the opportunity to comment on the SEC's expansion of the EDGAR system. Our corporate mission is to help all institutional and retail investors use the SEC's EDGAR data to make better financial decisions. We urge the commissioners to consider proposals to expand the EDGAR system to include all publicly available documents filed with the SEC. Before the EDGAR system, the cost of obtaining a Form 10K or 10Q was as much as $25 with significantly higher costs on a per-page basis for exhibits. EDGAR has made access to these documents essentially free, dramatically increasing the accessibility of these documents to investors. We feel that EDGAR's proven benefit to investors should be extended to the remaining documents, such as Shelf Registrations (Form 144), which provide valuable information for investment decisions. The EDGAR system has been a demonstrated success. Why not complete the process? Sincerely, Renton C. Squires Financial Analyst rentons@partes.com
