Date: 1/1/98 6:53 PM Dear Mr. Levitt: I am writing to express my opposition to Rule S7-25-97. If the United States is to remain a democracy to any extent, Rule S7-25-97 cannot exist. If there is any possibility that corporate executives wake up and realize that the ultimate victims of their unsustainable and undemocratic practices may very well be their own families, and that, accordingly, they transform their myopic insistence on making a profit into genuine concern for the future of the human race, the defeat of Rule S7-25-97 could be a step in that direction. I know I sound probably extremely naive in saying that, myopic in my own way and unrealistically idealistic. But in order to be right, we both are willing to believe whomever we want to. And I assert the next two generations will either or both pay the price of our consumptive ways and/or have the opportunity to decide if the human race continues. The Multilateral Agreement on Investment currently being negotiated at the OECD in Paris protects investors and gives them the right to sue any government that won't let them in. It doesn't matter how powerful the corporations become. If we let the corporations foist our unsustainable lifestyle on the rest of the planet, no wars will be necessary. The planet will simply not be able to support human life after awhile. Rule S7-25-97 is another step in that direction. Please do not effectuate it. Sheila Goldner
