Shareholders are the owners of a corporation. All owners should be allowed to elect representatives to oversee the corporation. Annual meetings with the election of the board of directors is an essential part of capitalism. This includes closed-end funds. NYSE is clearly not supporting shareholders. This proposal should be defeated.
