I appreciate an opportunity to comment and participate in governance as a concerned citizen. I disagree with the creation of the Natural Asset Company listing and see it as a policy failure to nature, to industry, and to society at large. As a man that works in the agriculture industry, I have personal incentive to look at how this affects my job. The reality is, if you can make a profit off of unused land, there is less incentive to use land. There are many influences upending existing markets, and as a complex system (as the realty market is) we should be taking more care into the affects on the market which many agree would be more negative. Our country is a leader in natural preservation and pollution reduction. Our free market economy has been the most effective in finding the balance between nature and production. Our profit-driven industry makes the most of the resources at hand within the confines of a regulated system. Our constant innovation in technology that makes more effect with less resources (micro processors, gas efficient engines to name a couple). Our technology innovation is our most effective means of protecting nature. From a scientific perspective, CO2 emissions are not a major concern: CO2 emissions have been higher in relatively recent Earth history. Higher CO2 concentration is better for plant life and as we see a rise in awareness of human's global influence, we are seeing more care given to reducing our footprint, and increases in forest area. Furthermore, higher CO2 concentration decreases the amount of water-loss by plants therefore increasing their rage of habitability. Not only has the scientific evidence spoken, but the markets have spoken on the issue as well. There is no concern of rising ocean levels by water-front property realty. ESG-oriented companies have seen losses in profits and clientele signaling a general lack of appeal by investors, I would suggest is due to both social and profit concerns. I hope the SEC will be more careful in its affects on the market and avoid the likely turmoil such a decision would cause.
