I believe the tax status of REIT's shouldbe left unchanged. As a small time investor, REITsare one of the few investments I can make where if the company makes a profit, i directly benefit in the form of a higher dividend. This makes it one of the most honest and straightfoward investments there is, something which is sorely needed in today's market. Imagine if Exxon gave back 90 percent of its profita to shareholders, or Apple, or Starbucks, or jp morgan. A fair and equitable distribution of profits is something that the Sec should promote and protect, not seek to diminish or destroy. Change exxon's tax status, so that they also have to distribute their income at 90%. Think of how investors and pension plans would prosper from that move.
