Changing the way asset backed securities are treated under the investment act would cause great harm to investors who have poured their life savings into these investment vehicles at the behest of home-owners who made poor choices in purchasing assets they themselves were not qualified to pay for. Requiring additional disclosure would make sense, changing the way these companies operate would not.
