Because of all of the rule changes in recent years, the common people invested in the stock market are no longer protected from the greedy people who are allowed to short stocks when they don't even own them. Computer based high frequency trading in the stock market is destroying the worth of our companies and our economy. The middle class has no protection from Wall Street manipulations of the stock market so our retirement funds are slowly eroding away. The interest rates at the banks don't even keep up with inflation. The only way middle class people have to prevent loosing our hard earned retirement money is by buying REITs. Please do not make these changes. I do not want to work till the day I die because my 401K or IRA accounts have shriveled away to nothing.
