Historical events, like the 2008 financial crisis shows that the opaqueness of the derivatives market and the lack of transparency can result in disastrous consequences

Millions of people in US have their retirements (i.e., their financial futures) depending on the markets. Having additional transparency in financial instruments, like derivatives, will allow Americans to have all the information at their disposal to make the best financial decisions for themselves (i.e., \"help others help themselves\")

Additional transparency, means better visibility, which means it can be powerful force to hold those with nefarious intentions accountable.

Additional transparency can only inspire confidence in the American markets.
