For far too many years institutions such as hedge funds have operated with opacity and criminally colluded with adjacent institutions using tactics such as swaps to draw a veil across their activities. The opacity and complexity of the financial industry is its primary defense - if the general public had even half an idea about what Wall Street does, there would be blood on the streets. The SEC has an opportunity to prove that it isn't in the pockets of these same institutions with this proposal, even though it is a small step. The public needs far greater service.
