February 22, 2023 I am all for this rule. The fact that retail orders can be routed to off exchange is not keeping retail safe. I do think that the stock market should all be going through lit exchange, no dark pools, no off exchange, nothing like that. Only lit exchange, best execution orders. So many retail investors trade securities and the fact that the money they put in the market does not move those securities is a bit disheartening. Whether it be up or down. The mass buys or sells of a security should be reflected in the price. This rule ensures that retail orders go through lit exchange thus actually affecting the market and provides true price discovery. This is a step in the right direction. Next up, best execution.
