As a retail investor I find transparency in markets of the utmost importance.

How can I make a informed decision in a market that trades within dark pools and high frequency trading (HFT)? How can possibly make an informed decision on investments when billions of dollars are being traded behind walls that can't be seen, within aggregates, ETFs, and options.

When large institutions that control the markets themselves, self regulate themselves, and have no oversight we are no longer in a free market which is fundamental to creating a fare environment for investors.

Information hidden in aggregates is not a step in the right direction and neither is the ability to hide so much information. Reporting requirements for market makers and large institutions must be strengthened to provide a fair market. Increase the reporting requirements in a higher frequency, even down to the individual trades themselves.
