I feel that, as a retail investor, there is quite a lot of information I do not have access to which gives me a great disadvantage when deciding how to invest my money. Any information that gives a better picture of what is going on in the market, especially with shorting of securities, should be public record. Personally, shorting a stock should be banned outright, but short of that, the number of shares short, who shorted them, who originally owned them, and when they are due, should be public record and available for free for everyone.
