I appreciate the concern the government has taken on our independent status as well as the effect of 12-b1 fees on our business. As a newly independent advisor, my clients are more open to our independent status over those connected with financial institutions. They view us as unbiased and are most dependent on the customer service/relation oriented business.
The 12b-1 fees are a way for us to generate business with specific companies we choose as advisors to do business with. Mutual fund companies continue to provide us incentives as an example of a free capitalist society. If a mutual fund company does not perform we have the confidence knowing our universe of investment products is wide open and untainted by wire house commissions and quotas tied to their performance.
