I’m writing because my family and I were affected by the economic collapse of 2008, and we don’t want it to happen again. I and my husband have had to delay retirement, my retired family members have lost much of their investments, my son's home value is less than what he paid, family have lost jobs and others have had a decrease in hours to work, thus decreasing their survival income.
One way to change the incentives so Wall Street doesn’t collapse our economy again would be for regulators to set up a way for shareholders to grab back ill-gotten gains. Please establish a way that the greed of Wall Street has checks and balances and consequences for those who do illegal activities. It is not a free for all. If we allow this we are heading as the Romans to destroy what was once a wonderful democracy.
If it turns out that the profits in a given year were built on shoddy practices that become clear in the out-years, those bonus payments should be forfeited.
