Article that explains the current dynamic between EU and proposed US rules. https://www.wsj.com/articles/sec-climate-rules-could-decide-whether-u-s-companies-face-tough-eu-law-6ccd4c83 US companies will be required to disclose under EU reporting standards unless the companies are reporting equivalent data elsewhere. According to the piece: SEC Chair Gary Gensler said at a congressional hearing that he hoped his agency’s final rules would “help us be recognized by Europe…rather than their more-restrictive rules” To your point: the article goes on to say that EU officials have responded to Chair’s idea by maintaining if the SEC doesn’t include Scope 3 requirements in its final rule, the bloc would be unlikely to treat the U.S. disclosure regime as equivalent to its own. This is the only article I could find on the matter. Will send a few more along as I come across them.
