I am opposed to the proposed SEC Climate Disclosure Rule, File Number S7-10-22. Why. Very easy this is not, nor should it be in the wheelhouse of the SEC. The SEC was created as an independent agency of the federal government to oversee and fight investor fraud. After the Wall Street Crash of 1929 it was felt that such an independent agency was needed to enforce laws against market manipulations. The SEC does not have the scientific expertise to oversee the punishment of companies not green enough by decreasing investment. What this does is create a corporate ESG score which will restrict banking loans and commerce and punish companies that do not adhere to the current “religion” of climate change. I am strongly opposed to this power grab that will bloat the SEC and cause severe problems for businesses and consumers. -- Linda Petrou, Ph.D.
