May 24, 2022 Fossil fuel companies have had a direct role in creating the climate crisis. From fracking to the burning of fossil fuels to giant oil spills that pollute our ocean, these companies have had a devastating and life altering impact on our environment for decades. And even more sinister, the fossil fuel industry knows that their products harm the air we breathe and the water we drink. Yet, they haven't been required to report to their shareholders the devastating impacts their products have on public health and the climate. The Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed rules new rules requiring companies to disclose their carbon emissions and study the impact of how their products increase climate risk and devastation is a step in the right direction towards accountability. I fully support the SEC's proposed climate rules to require companies to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and study the impacts their products have on the climate. Thank you for acknowledging the interconnectedness between businesses, humanity, nature, and our planet. We must all work together to establish common goals so we can remediate the damage that threatens us all and our future.
