I strongly oppose any new rules that create climate-related disclosures for public companies. Disclosures create a defacto standard that public companies are judged by, and such standards will lead companies to redirect investment funds. New disclosures based on political topics not only increase the cost of reporting (which reduces profits and shareholder value) but also risk leading companies to invest in activities that redirect profits from wealth creating activities (which benefit shareholders and employees) to activities which the SEC has chosen as a priority. Using funding to pursue activities which are less likely to make a company successful in its field are more likely to lead to failure against competitors which puts public companies at a disadvantage toward private companies. As a result, employees and shareholders will suffer.
