As an individual investor who currently owns stock in 19 companies I applaud the SEC's new rule that will require publicly traded companies to provide data on their climate-related financial risks.

I strongly believe that climate change is the existential risk to the future of the planet, and thus climate-related data is a key component for evaluating the future prospects of all companies. Requiring that climate data be reported in some consistent format will assist all investors in evaluating the risks that individual companies face and how active and effective those companies are in addressing climate change on a global scale.

Finally, Individual investors do not have the time and resources that institutional investors have to analyze data nor do we have access to the officials of the companies in which we own stock. Therefore, any rules and regulations that require consistent data about how individual companies are addressing vulnerabilities to climate change is a welcome addition to those managing our own investment portfolios.
