Subject: Rule S7-10-22

I strongly support proposed rule S7-10-22. As an individual investor, I find that the current lack of standards or accountability in companies’ voluntary environmental and emissions disclosures and pledges to hinder my ability to meet my financial goals in an informed, ethical, and sustainable manner.

For the free market to function properly, investors must be able to choose their investments based on reliable, audited, and publicly available information. The current lack of standards for greenhouse gas emissions disclosures and net-zero pledges makes information released by companies unreliable and essentially useless. If companies are not required to include climate-related disclosures about climate-related risks that are reasonably likely to have a material impact on their business, then investors cannot make their investment decisions with any confidence.

This information asymmetry is a market failure. The proposed rule will correct this failure, providing the necessary transparency to fully inform investors of financial and other risks posed by greenhouse gas emissions.

Sincerely,
Gillian Kiley
