The SEC's proposal to have companies report out climate-related data is a misguided attempt to deal with an alleged problem about which there is widespread disagreement. The proposal will accomplish nothing except to add to the already burdensome regulations heaped on businesses. Rather than heaping more regulations on businesses, the SEC should be looking at ways to make doing business easier. Doing so would have a far-more beneficial effect on the economy and on investors' bottom lines than trying to force companies to report data that may or may not have any particular meaning or relevance. The SEC needs to stay in its lane.
