Sustainability is a public good. In order that the free market may be empowered to self-regulate and invalidate the need for further government intervention, the public needs credible and comparable corporate sustainability reports.
The ask is, introduce a corporate sustainability governance framework. The three pillars of the framework:
1. Mandatory sustainability agent (e.g. Chief Sustainability Officer) in a firm's executive or top management team who reports directly to a sustainability-focused board committee,
2. Standardized sustainability report, and
3. A consequential mechanism for assuring firms' sustainability reports in a manner that parallels financial audits.
