It is outside the scope of the SEC to require companies to report on greenhouse gas emissions. The SEC does not have the expertise to validate compliance. Companies are already required to disclose material risks in their quarterly and annual reports, which if a risk, greenhouse gas emissions would be identified.

The SEC should stay true to its mission of protecting investors, maintaining fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitating capital formation. Let Congress, in open debate, decide if and how companies should report their greenhouse gas emission sources.
