Dear Ms. Murphy,

Corporate America needs no more interference from our government. After witnessing the industries that our government has destroyed with its meddling in the past year, I am certain that we are heading in the wrong direction. As someone that works independently selling items on the internet, I hate to think of the long term effects the SEC’s shareholder access rule change will bring to businesses. We must not let American businesses fall under the rule of people that do not wish to protect the prosperity of that business.

As a mother of three small children, I chose several years ago to remain home rather than stay in the workforce. However, I still do all that I can to contribute to my family’s finances. For this reason, I make my income selling items on the internet. I have found success selling things like antiques and other craft items on eBay. The extra money that I bring in is very important to the running of my household. Even though my internet business is small, it is something that I am proud to have accomplished. Being able to work for myself is a small part of what is great about America.

Please do not allow the shareholder proxy access rule to be changed. When major corporations face government interference, it hits home with all of us. America is the land of opportunity. We must protect the rights of these businesses to run in the manner that keeps them profitable.

Sincerely,

Shelby Owings
