The uptick rule must be re instituted immediately. I fully recognize that shorting stocks provides benefits to efficient markets and should be accommodated; however, being allowed to short individual stocks and whole indices as the market drops defies commonsense and goes beyond efficient markets to outrageous speculation. Please act immediately on this issue in order to restore credibility to the markets and regulators.
