As a new investor within the last two years, I have committed a lot of my time toward learning the fundamentals of market structure. During the last year and change, the SEC has faced a lot of scrutiny in regards to whether or not we operate under fair market conditions. Through various literature, red flags have been raised as yet again, self regulating of institutions and HF have fallen to the wayside allowing for an entanglement of a messy, complex market structure. Today, we have the technology where settlement days should not take 35 days, 14 days, even 2 days. We should be operating under conditions where we have instant settlement. This market, that has attracted more retail investors over the last two years than ever in market history, is at a cross road. Will the regulatory agencies step up and implement reform or will it turn a blind eye to blatant unfair conditions?
