Separating the proprietary trading and the ordinary business of a bank makes simple good sense. To risk the money of depositors for the sake of making big bonuses is far too risky and the big banks managed to escalate such trading into one of the worst bank crises in U.S. history. This is a major step toward sanity and toward urging banking executives and traders to adjust their expectations for reasonable income.
