This comment is in objection to the SEC wading into the area of climate change. This initiative represents mission creep away from the SECs fundamental mandates to (1) protect investors, (2) maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets and (3) facilitate capital formation. This climate change foray will dilute the SECs efforts in these three important areas. Climate change does not materially affect the financial performance of most companies. If shareholders believe a companys policies on climate issues are important, they can pass a proxy resolution mandating more disclosure.
