When a consumer buys a stock they are interested in the company doing well and turning a profit. That should be the over-riding goal of the company and it's Board. Any company that produces a product or even turns on a light in an office has an impact on global emissions. It is the role of Government to address emissions and to make rules to address any concerns. Companies thus would comply with a known set of rules. Opening up companies to make their own rules and publish their asessments would distract from their primary responsibilities, significantly increase costs of doing business, open them up to extensive litigation and ultimately serve no purpose other than perhaps feeling better about themselves. Elected officials are in the best position to respond to electorate concerns and to address goals.
