In my opinion financial literacy would be improved if financial companies were required to more prominently display the expense ratio of their mutual funds. Meaning, a big bold number that you could see when holding the document out at arm's length or farther.

In the same way that credit card statement now tells you what you'd pay in interest over a projected period of time...the prospectus should tell you the projected fees you will pay over a projected period of time at the stated expense ratio.

It would also be helpful to see this projected fee accumulation plotted on a matrix of other ratios...so you can see how much more or less you'd pay at various expense ratios.
