Dear Members of the Securities and Exchange Commission:
We must end secret political spending by corporations. CEOs are able to hide spending on their personal causes from the public, and even from their own shareholders. Such secrecy is unacceptable in a democracy - not to mention in an economy where corporations are publicly traded. I want to know what causes and candidates the corporations I patronize support.
The causes that CEOs support with corporate money must be transparent to current and potential investors.
Therefore, I strongly support the SEC issuing a rule that would require publicly traded corporations to publicly disclose all their spending on political activities.
Both shareholders and the public deserve to know how much a given corporation spends on politics (directly and through intermediaries), and which candidates are being promoted or attacked.
Thank you for considering my comment.
Sincerely,
Alecia Magnifico
