SEC

I am deeply concerned about the influence of corporate money on our electoral process.

In particular, I am appalled that, because of the Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, publicly traded corporations can spend investors' money in secret.

I am writing to urge the Securities and Exchange Commission to issue a rule requiring publicly traded corporations to publicly disclose all their political spending.

Both shareholders and the public must be fully informed as to how much the corporation spends on politics and which candidates are being promoted or attacked. Disclosures should be posted promptly on the SEC's web site.

It is a sad day when politicians are bought as the norm and citizens have less rights than they did 50 years ago. It is a sad day when Americans no longer trust their government or the democratic process.
It is a sad day when we see our own government as hypocritical and the world loses respect for us as a leader of the freedoms our Constitution put in place. It is a sad day when we lose faith in our leaders, our Supreme Court, our military, our police, each other and ourselves.

We must turn this around or or I fear our country, as we know (knew) it will be lost forever.

Thank you for considering my comment.

Sincerely,

Nan Corliss
