I would like to express my strong support of the petition by the Committee on Disclosure of Corporate Political Spending, File Number 4-637.

Allowing Corporations to anonymously donate money does not “promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity”.  Corporate donations are conspicuously used to influence a political agenda in their favor and many of the interests of corporations are diametrically opposed to the best interests of the people of our nation.  Therefore, not only do our citizens have a right to know about these donations and those who receive them but, we also have a responsibility as citizens to be aware of entities that promote itself over our nation so we might exercise our franchise accordingly.

In addition, as a person who holds shares and interests in public corporations, should I not be able to easily discern how those corporations are using my money to influence elections?  All public corporations should be required to report any political donations at the very moment they are made.

It is time to return democracy to the citizens of our country.  It is time to restore integrity, openness, accountability and righteousness to Congress. The time to act is now.
