Investor education should start at a young age. There should be a curriculum implemented in schools for financial education. There are ways to explain securities in elementary terms. In addition, individual investors should be allowed to take exams besides the Series 65 when they do not have sponsorship. This may not cover everything people need to know, but at least will give them basic knowledge about securities and retirement plans. If they pass exams where sponsorship would normally be necessary, they will not be honored until joining a brokerage firm.
