To assess the value of the Investor Education website, I ran the following thought experiment: Can my educated daughters learn basic investing principles from the website?
1. Can they learn about the safest investment: T-bills? NO.
2. Can they learn about the best place to buy T-bills, i.e, Treasury Direct? NO.
3. Can they learn about buying stocks online WITHOUT needing a broker? NO.
4. Can they learn about the difference in risk between shorting a stock and buying a put option? NO
At this point I just stopped because I realized I would have to educate them myself without using this taxpayer and investor funded website.
