Per a notation in Barron's edition of Nov.16th 2015 SEC Chair Ms. White states that the SEC would consider rules requiring disclosure of short selling I whole heartedly endorse such a disclosure.
One of the fundamental tasks of the SEC is to ensure full and fair disclosure of information to the investing public. As a private investor I surely would want to know of any significant short positions in a particular publicly traded company. That information would also allow investors to weigh any investors comments should they hold a sort position in a particular equity.
I have puzzled over why this relevant information is not publicly disclosed as is required by those holding significant long positions.
Thank you.
