The company's management considers its business to be a single segment entity — the manufacture and sale of medical devices. The company's products generally share similar distribution channels and customers. The company designs, manufactures, packages, distributes and sells medical, surgical, diagnostic and patient care devices. The company sells a broad range of products to hospitals, individual healthcare professionals, extended care health facilities and alternate site facilities on a global basis. In general, the company's products are intended to be used once and then discarded or implanted either temporarily or permanently. The company's chief operating decision makers evaluate the various global product portfolios on a net sales basis. The company's chief operating decision makers generally evaluate profitability and associated investments on an enterprise-wide basis due to shared geographic infrastructures.
