6.   Cash and Cash Equivalents

Cash and cash equivalents generally consist of cash, government securities, mutual funds, and money market funds. These securities are primarily held in two financial institutions and are uninsured except for the minimum Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (“FDIC”) coverage, and have original maturity dates of three months or less. As of March 31, 2012 and December 31, 2011, bank balances totaling approximately $12.6 million and $3.3 million, respectively, were uninsured.
