Company Overview Headquartered in Poplar Bluff, MO, with locations across southern Missouri, in northeast and north- central Arkansas, and in southern Illinois. $2.7 billion in assets as of September 30, 2021. Loans, net, totaled $2.2 billion; deposits were $2.4 billion; stockholders’ equity totaled $293 million. Tangible common equity* of $272.4 million results in TBV/common share* of $30.79 at September 30, 2021, which has grown at a compounded annual growth rate of 12.9% since June 30, 2017. The Company’s profitability was significantly impacted in FY 2021 and FYTD 2022 by recognition of origination fees on SBA Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, as forgiveness payments were received and accretion of the deferred fees was accelerated. The fees, recognized as loan interest income, resulted in additional $3.4 million pre-tax income in FY 2021, increasing diluted EPS by $0.30, net of tax, and net interest margin by 14 basis points. In FYTD 2022, this pre-tax income totaled $2.2 million, increasing diluted EPS by $0.19, net of tax, and net interest margin by 34 basis points. Effective July 1, 2020, the Company adopted ASU 2016-13, the current expected credit losses, or “CECL” standard. The allowance for credit losses increased to 1.61% of gross loans (1.71% of loans excluding PPP) at September 30, 2020, as compared to 1.16% of gross loans (1.24% of loans excluding PPP) prior to adoption, at June 30, 2020. As of September 30, 2021, as the outlook for economic conditions has improved, the allowance for credit losses has declined to 1.43% of gross loans (1.44% of loans excluding PPP). The Company recorded a negative provision for credit losses of $1.0 million for fiscal 2021, inclusive of a negative provision of $602,000 related to funded loan balances, and a negative provision of $422,000 related to unfunded credit commitments. In the first quarter of fiscal 2022, the Company recorded a negative provision for credit losses of $305,000, inclusive of a negative provision of $679,000 related to funded loan balances, partially offset by a provision of $374,000 related to unfunded credit commitments. * See “Important Statements – Non-GAAP Financial Measures” for a reconciliation of non-GAAP financial measures. 6

Company Overview (cont.) In September 2021, the Company announced a merger with Fortune Financial, Inc., parent of FortuneBank, with two branches in Jefferson and St. Louis Counties, Missouri, both located within the St. Louis, Missouri, MSA. At June 30, 2021, Fortune’s consolidated assets were $254 million, including loans, net, of $209 million, while deposits totaled $214 million. Consideration is comprised of stock and cash at a 60:40 ratio, with the exchange ratio for the stock portion fixed based on SMBC’s $43.99 average closing price over the 20-day trading period ended September 24, 2021. In October 2021, the Company announced that it entered into an agreement to acquire the Cairo, Illinois, branch location and assume the deposits of First National Bank, Oldham, South Dakota. The branch holds approximately $29 million in deposits, and the Company intends to consolidate the branch with its existing Cairo, Illinois, facility. In May 2020, the Company acquired Central Federal Savings and Loan, Rolla, Missouri, adding a single location with $51 million in loans and $47 million in deposits. In November 2018, the Company acquired First Commercial Bank, adding $144 million in loans and $171 million in deposits. The Company retained seven acquired locations, all in southeast Missouri. In February 2018, the Company acquired Southern Missouri Bank of Marshfield, located in a community within the Springfield, Missouri MSA, adding $68 million in loans, and $70 million in deposits. In June 2017, the Company acquired Capaha Bank, with six locations in Cape Girardeau and Jackson, Missouri; and three locations in southern Illinois. The acquisition added $152 million in loans, and $167 million in deposits. In August 2014, the Company acquired Peoples Bank of the Ozarks, adding 10 locations in southwest Missouri, including eight in the Springfield, Missouri MSA, with $190 million in loans and $222 million in deposits. 7

Branch Map Southern Bank operates 50 banking facilities across southern Missouri, northeast and north-central Arkansas, and southern Illinois. The Fortune acquisition will add two facilities, and the Cairo branch acquisition will result in a branch consolidation. 8

COVID-19 Deferrals & Modifications 16 The Company has adopted treatment allowed under the CARES Act and subsequent legislation to not report as TDRs certain loans that were otherwise current and performing prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but for which borrowers experienced or expected financial difficulties due to the effects of the pandemic: At June 30, 2020, loans granted full payment deferrals totaled $117.3 million, and loans granted modifications to make interest-only payments totaled $168.9 million. At June 30, 2021, no loans were granted full payment deferrals, and loans granted modifications to make interest-only payments totaled $23.9 million. At September 30, 2021, no loans were granted full payment deferrals, and loans granted modifications to make interest-only payments totaled $23.7 million. Each of the four loans, totaling $23.7 million, under a COVID-related payment modification as of September 30, 2021, have been designated a “special mention” credit. These loans are secured by metro-area hotel properties.
