6. RELATED PARTY TRANSACTIONS

A member of the Company's Board of Directors, Gerald S. Lippes, is a partner in a law firm that provides legal

services to the Company. For the three and nine months ended September 30, 2013, the Company incurred expense of $579,000 and $1,237,000, respectively, for legal services from this firm. The Company incurred $264,000 and $930,000 for legal services from this firm during the three and nine months ended September 30, 2012, respectively. Of the amounts incurred during the nine months ended September 30, 2012, $12,000 related to services provided in connection with the sale of businesses and were recognized as a component of discontinued operations. All other amounts incurred during the 2013 and 2012 periods were expensed as a component of selling, general, and administrative expenses. At September 30, 2013 and December 31, 2012, the Company had $413,000 and $530,000, respectively, recorded in accounts payable for amounts due to this law firm.

Effective September 30, 2013, Henning Kornbrekke, the former President and Chief Operating Officer, retired and entered into a consulting agreement with the Company. Through this agreement, he will serve as a consultant to the Company through December 2014 for a monetary fee of $10,000 per month.
