Income Taxes	7 Income Taxes The provision for income taxes as a percentage of earnings before income taxes for the first quarter of 2013 was 35.1% compared to 37.4% in the first quarter of 2012. The percentage for the first quarter of 2013 was lower than the previous year due to recognition of 2012 research and development credits in the first quarter of 2013 as a result of recently enacted tax legislation. Without this recognition, the percentages would have been consistent between years.

Disclosures may include net deferred tax liability or asset recognized in an enterprise's statement of financial position, net change during the year in the total valuation allowance, approximate tax effect of each type of temporary difference and carryforward that gives rise to a significant portion of deferred tax liabilities and deferred tax assets, utilization of a tax carryback, and tax uncertainties information.
