Accounts receivable consist of the following (in thousands):

The Company calculates an allowance for doubtful accounts by applying a percentage, estimated by management based on historical aging experience, to the accounts receivable balance. The Company recorded bad debt expense of $240 thousand and $51 thousand in 2015 and 2014, respectively. The Company did not record bad debt expense in 2013 because of the allowance for doubtful accounts percentage resulted in a reduction of the allowance.
