Item 8.01.  Other Events

On May 8, 2006 the Registrant issued a press release announcing that its Board
of Directors has declared a regular quarterly dividend of 10 cents per share on
its common stock. The dividend will be payable June 15, 2006, to shareholders of
record on June 1, 2006. A copy of the press release announcing the payment and
record dates is attached as Exhibit 99.1.

       MUELLER INDUSTRIES, INC. DECLARES CASH DIVIDEND FOR SECOND QUARTER

    MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mueller Industries, Inc.
(NYSE: MLI), announced today that its Board of Directors has declared a
regular quarterly dividend of 10 cents per share on its common stock. The
dividend will be payable June 15, 2006, to shareholders of record on June 1,
2006.

    Mueller Industries, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of copper tube and
fittings; brass and copper alloy rod, bar and shapes; aluminum and brass
forgings; aluminum and copper impact extrusions; plastic fittings and valves;
refrigeration valves and fittings; and fabricated tubular products.  Mueller's
operations are located throughout the United States and in Canada, Mexico,
