8. Marketable Securities

        At December 31, 2011 and 2010, we had an investment in $6,500,000 face value of Skilled Healthcare Group, Inc.'s (or SHG) Senior Subordinated Notes with a face rate of 11.0% and an effective yield of 11.1%. Interest on the notes is payable semi-annually in arrears and the notes mature on January 15, 2014. One of our board members is the chief executive officer of SHG. See Note 12. Transactions with Related Party for further discussion.
