Teck Cominco Reviewing Coroner’s Inquest Jury Recommendations

Vancouver, BC—Teck Cominco will be closely reviewing the recommendations of the coroner’s inquest held in Kimberley, BC, this past week to further increase its understanding of the causes of the tragic events of May, 2006.

“Our objective has been to ensure the unprecedented and unforeseen events of May 2006 never happen again,” said Don Lindsay, President and CEO of Teck Cominco Limited. “We are committed to identifying and managing hazards and risks at Kimberley and all of our operations. The jury’s recommendations will form part of our ongoing work.”

The company will be continuing its work with a technical review panel consisting of independent experts from UBC, staff of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources (MEMPR) and their respective technical advisors to develop a complete understanding of the technical causes of the incident.

“Teck Cominco once again extends its deepest condolences to the families of those whose lives were lost in this tragic accident,” said Lindsay.
