Segment Information
The Company conducts its operations through four geographic operating and reportable segments — North America, Europe, Latin America, and Africa/Asia Pacific. The Company’s operating and reportable segments align with the structure of the Company’s internal management organization. All four segments engage in the development, design, manufacturing, marketing and distribution of copper, aluminum, and fiber optic communication, construction, electric utility and electrical infrastructure wire and cable products. In addition to the above products, the North America and Latin America segments manufacture and distribute rod mill wire and cable products and the Europe segment engages in turnkey project services for both land and submarine cables.
Net revenues as shown below represent sales to external customers for each segment. Intersegment sales have been eliminated. In the three and nine months ended September 29, 2017, intersegment sales were $2.0 million and $10.8 million in North America, $1.2 million and $4.0 million in Europe and $3.7 million and $19.0 million in Latin America, respectively. In the three and nine months ended September 30, 2016, intersegment sales were $7.4 million and $31.1 million in North America, $3.5 million and $7.9 million in Europe, $4.7 million and $14.5 million in Latin America and $0.2 million in Africa/Asia Pacific, respectively.
The chief operating decision maker evaluates segment performance and allocates resources based on segment operating income. Summarized financial information for the Company’s reportable segments for the three and nine fiscal months ended September 29, 2017 and September 30, 2016 is as follows:
